Butter Cookies

1 cup salted butter

1 1/2 cups sugar

1 beaten egg

1/2 tsp. vanilla

1/2 tsp. almond extract

2 1/2 cups flour

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

Finely chopped almonds or pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream butter and sugar; add beaten egg, vanilla, and almond extract. Beat well.

Sift flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar together. Add to wet mixture and mix thoroughly. Chill.

Form into 1/2 inch balls, roll tops in finely chopped almonds or pecans. Bake for 10 minutes. Do not overcook and do not brown.
